Infinity Mirrors

I created several colour-shifting "Infinity Mirrors" using glass-covered picture frames, mirror tint, 12V remote-controlled LED strips, mirrors, silicone, and AC/DC transformers. These entrancing decorations utilize a thin lightbox frame with a mirror in the back, chrome-tinted glass in the front, and a bordering LED strip sandwiched in the middle. When turned on, the light from the LED strip is refracted off the back mirror, only to be largely refracted again by the chrome-tinted glass. Trapped in between two mirrors, the light continues bouncing and losing some energy each time until it is no longer visible. This creates the illusion of a deep tunnel descending into black. Using colour-shifting LEDs further enhances the beauty of this mesmerizing illusion. Increasing either the brightness of the LEDs or the efficiency of the reflective materials will increase the number of visible refractions, resulting in a deeper “tunnel”. The mirrors I have made thus far have been as gifts, but I would like to create more when I have time—how deep can the tunnel go?
